1715- Duke of Orleans and Cardinal Fleury were regents for Louis XV after Louis XIV died
1743-death of Cardinal Fleury causing Louis XV to rule alone
1743-1774- Louis XV becomes king, influenced by ministers and a mistress Madame de Pompadour in making government decisions and advice on foreign policy, during his rule he loses in the Seven Year's War and placed many taxes on the already hungry people
1774-1792-Louis XVI's poor understanding of France with his overspending wife Marie Antoinette led to discontent in the people, could not fix the financial problems
1740-1748 - War of Austiran Succession- British captured the French fortress of Louisbourg at the entrance of the Saint Lawrence River.
1748- Treaty of Aix-la-chapelle- Although this concluded the War of the Austian Succession, the war proved to be meaningless since France did not gain from it.
1756-1763- Seven Years War- Although France initially succeeded in the Seven Years War, France eventually lost control of much of their lands to the British. (See Treaty of Paris)
1763- Treaty of Paris- France withdraws from the Great War for Empire, leaving India, Canada, and American lands east of the Mississippi to the British.
